You could have still used those pennies. Even though they were discontinued, they are still legal tender (just like our one dollar and two dollar bills). Both the loonie and toonie are still in production. I think I've heard of a $5 coin being produced in the future.

Okay, but do your prices still ring up to the penny, or do they round up or down to the nearest nickel? (Gotta' ask my sister about that, lol). Yeah, I loved the loonies and toonies!

They ring up to the penny and round it up or down manually. That doesn't affect me though as I pay electronically. I really don't miss carrying cash. The only business I frequent that only accepts cash is my barber.

I always pay in cash for my haircuts… Don't necessarily need to, since they do take plastic, but it's just a force of habit for me. I can peel off a tip more easily, too, than having to enter it on the card reader screen.

The only bill I carry in my wallet is an old paper $50 dollar bill. I love the image on the back on it. I'll never spend it.

Oh, that's really awesome. Reminds me of my Canadian Maple Leaf gold coins: I'll never sell them. They're too beautiful for me to want to part with.

                        Knob and spool wiring.
Household fuses (as opposed to circuit breakers)

We had to pay about 2000 dollars to get what the electrician called our "knob and tube" wiring replaced….It wouldn't have passed the house inspection otherwise.

Knob and tube is another name for knob and spool. It is a definite fire hazard (that's why I am trying to help Donna rewire her hut, although she seems resistant to removing those old wires). It has actually been obsolete for a very long time.
That must have been quite a while ago that you had that done? I cannot imagine an electrician rewiring a house for 2k these days.

It was about two years ago. He said the whole house wasn't knob and tube, only some sections. I thought 2000 was a helluva lot, but what do I know? We had to do it to get the house insurance down to a reasonable rate.

My house still has a fuse box. Obsolete, yes, but I've never had a problem.

Just because something is obsolete does not mean people may not have it.
(Automobiles with carbs, for an example.)
However, if you ever have an issue with your fuse box, you will never find another one to replace it with at Lowes or Home Depot or any other place that I can think of.

Did breaker boxes replace them or do you have one as well?

Yeah, they were replaced by breaker boxes but no, I've never upgraded. Still have the old General Electric fuse box.
