Greenland with its vast deposits of rare earth minerals is of such vital strategic importance that the Western world would be better off if the United States controlled it than Denmark. Denmark is already getting close with China because China has interest in it and China already controls most of the world's supply of rare earth minerals. Letting them get access to Greenland's minerals would give them too much power.
