Masato Fukuda was only lightly injured in his encounter with a pair of bears on Thursday morning.
He's pictured here speaking to Japanese TV station NHK.

    That was certainly heroic. ♥
As so often, the real tragedy lies behind the headline.
Many wild animals are desperate for food.
Even though it looks cute when squirrels run up and down the houses, they're also close to starving.
Then squirrels like to clear out nests (or kitchens), which the birdies don't like.

when i'm running through parks, i bring peanuts in shells for the squirrels. bad thing is that they are becomming dependent upon humans for food: there's an overload of oak trees which teem with acorns!

          True (dependent).
Hmmm, if there are so many acorns, the squirrels in your area shouldn't be hungry.
The Capitol squirrels mostly liked those disgusting crackers.
          Of course that wasn't appropriate food….sorry! 🐿️🐿️🐿️

Squirrels don't eat peanuts. They eat acorns. Whenever I see a squirrel digging up somwthing, they are pulling out an acorn that was burried there while all the peanuts are still lying on the ground.
