The way you described Dirk's escape was moving, but he's not gonna make it out there. I think this just shows birds aren't meant to be pets. Any animal that tries to bolt the second their cell door is opened probably shouldn't be a pet. Cats are the same way. Of course, most can't survive outside after being domesticated - and equally, they have no chance if they were raised in a pet store - so they really have no choice but to be in prison.
