The Switch got a 3 year head start and PS5/Xbox had major supply issues for the first year and a half. By the time the generation is over I doubt either one will have caught up to Nintendo but it's not a fair comparison right now.

Microsoft has unlimited amounts of money and keeps buying up game studios. They put too much in to give up now. Maybe if they actually made some good games they'd be able to catch up.

The gap is closing. Sony sold over twice as many consoles than Microsoft last generation. This generation it's not even 90% more. Ouch.
The PS4 has sold 115.79 million units lifetime, and the Xbox One 50.19 million.
