If this is the case, and the time & energy required to keep fixing it is prohibitive, why not construct a new boards system with up-to-date software, patterned after the old one, so that the phoenix can rise again from the ashes, revitalised and firing on all cylinders? ("Don't mix metaphors," my English teacher would say.)
Could this be on the horizon?

I had zero issues with the boards. I loved them.
Blocked a few users along the way, but compared to the 100s and 1000s of amazing and intelligent posts here it was worth it.
These message boards were such a huge part of my web experience, not quite sure what the web will be worth without them.
Facebook soon will also be entirely corporate messaging.
WTF
We're gonna have to give up computers and go back to actually talking to the RL humans around us like going back to Medieval Times!
