She got paid to be the star of this film, so there you go. Moreover, at the time this movie was made and released Elizabeth Berkley was trying to reinvent herself, so she thought doing an edgy movie was the right way to go about achieving that specific goal.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything. -

I've never made time to watch this film and I've only see Elizabeth Berkley as a guest on a few TV shows post Showgirls. It seems to me she is famous for two things: as a regular on a long ago, long running teen TV series (which is a group with many-many members), and as the girl who's career was ruined by a notorious and (by all accounts) pretty bad film.
Still famous though and we still comment about her - is that a success?
