I cannot decide if I like it or not. It's not particularly good, a bit hammy and with a dud attempt at a British comic duo (sorry Percy Herbert and Norman Rossington - two stalwarts in many a film, but not so much here). Plus zero attempt at authenticity with the usual assemblage of post WW2 American tanks. I'm also guessing this is one of those films that derailed George Peppard's career by being cast to prop-up Rock Hudson.
But it's one of those films I watched as a kid on TV, when I was less critical, and Nigel Green cheerfully steals every scene he's in - and I enjoyed it well enough watching this time - so maybe I like it, despite it's many failings.
Actually watching it this time I noticed Leo Gordon's name on the script whilst he also played his (self-written) standard tough guy role. It turns out he really was a hard man - served time in prison, got shot, and wrote quite a few scripts along the way.
(touch of deja-vu here, I think I've had similar gripes about similar films - can't remember which at the moment)
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!
