It's the same logic that makes "Rollerball" a remake of the original. It can be completely disassociated and still be a ripoff.
My "#3" key is broken so I'm putting one here so i can cut & paste with it.

@ OP, you are so correct. Same as people saying John Carter was an Avatar ripoff.
The funniest thing I ever heard was someone tell me the Hunger Games was not a ripoff of Battle Royale.

Yea, how about a friend of mine who thought "The Island" was really original and thought provoking. He was so surprised that Michael Bay directed this and had new found respect for him.
I mentioned Logan's Run, but to little avail.
btw, The "computer voice" in the The Island is exactly the same as Logan's run too.

In Reality look at how many cultures has tricksters. We have Brer Rabbitand Anasi in African Folklore, we have Hermes/Mercy in Greek/Roman mythology. We have Loki in Norse mythology/folklore. You can trace Cinderella back to Ancient Egypt (Rhodpis) and you can trace Beauty and the Beast back to Ancient Greece/Rome (Psyche and Eros/Cupid). People could argue that the "Witches of Walvery place" are both a rip of Sabrina the Teenage Witch AND Harry Potter. But you could argue that Sabrina the Teenage witch is just a 'teen' version of "Bewitched". Anything is borrowed from some other story or event I mean read the HP books and notice how much mythology references JK uses (Greek with the name Hermione and also the 3 headed dogs),Roman for Professor McGonell, Hindu (the twins dates for Ron and Harry), etc

Was there a Teenage Witch (Sabrina or not) in Casper the Friendly Ghost comics?
No, sorry, that was Wendy, wasn't it? (Brainfart)
Sabrina was from the Archie Comics, but was that before Samantha Stephens on TV?

Absolutely! πŸ™‚ Ha Ha! I'm SO grateful I was born in an era when you could let your kids watch these movies and nobody freaked out. My love of film came from viewing these classic greats with my parents.
I thought you came up here to have a nervous breakdown. ..I decided not to have one.
