As gas prices continue to rise across the country, police are starting to see more people stealing gas.

On a positive note, two states so far have temporarily suspended the gas tax:
Oh, I wish they would do that in my state - Washington - which has the 3rd highest gas tax in the U.S., after California and Pennsylvania. I need heating oil for my house, too. It has shot way up in price along with all other fuels. -

Hopefully they will.
Although this article claims it might not help:
But suspending the state gas tax actually may not do much to help drivers, and it could hurt state budgets and delay road improvements, said Lucy Dadayan, senior research associate at the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.
Gas stations may not necessarily reduce their prices if states lift their taxes, she said.
Plus, though most state budgets are healthy at the moment, that can turn quickly – particularly as the conflict in Ukraine and high inflation drag on.
Instead, states may want to provide more targeted assistance to lower-income residents, who have a harder time coping with skyrocketing gas prices.
"It's much, much more reasonable to give rebates to the lowest-income taxpayers," Dadayan said, noting that lifting the gas tax for everyone isn't fiscally fair. "But eliminating or temporarily suspending gas taxes is not a prudent tax policy."

The only thing I can realistically do is cut my driving to just the bare minimum… same with my furnace. I just turn the thermostat way the heck down, then revert to my fireplace for heating (which is why I'm always stocked up with firewood that I gather myself - - costs me nothing).

I assume a lot of people will be driving less. There was a video on YouTube (from a news channel) where a woman said she had to spend $50 on gas every two days, just to get to work and back. She works for Amazon and tried twice to transfer to a closer location, but her requests were never accepted.

Yeah, if this keeps up, we're going to be in a recession very soon. Nobody will be able to go anywhere, do anything, buy anything… I think there is a general "buyer's strike" starting to materialize now. Hopefully that will help quell inflation.

I keep hearing barrel prices are tumbling. I winder if we will see the break in price. -

Yes, but… my house is situated somewhat remotely, i.e. not very close to the natural gas mainline that serves my area. I've been led to understand that I would have to bear the installation cost of a feeder line to get nat-gas to my house. Plus, I would imagine the oil furnace would have to be scrapped and replaced with a gas-burning furnace, and furthermore, the 500-gallon heating oil tank would have to be dug up and disposed of according to strict EPA guidelines (at my expense). When I look at the cost of all that, it just doesn't make economic sense. It could be years before such a switch would pay off. Oh, and keep in mind there's no guarantee that nat-gas is always going to be economical. Nat-gas has gone way up in price lately, too.

If these astronomical fuel prices are going to cause more societal issues, it is in the states best interest to start subsidizing fuel and wearing the cost themselves.
Oil and gas companies are still reaping in more profits than ever before and governments had no issue breaking down the economy over covid, so they can afford it.
Norman! What did you put in my tea? -

I make it easy for myself and steal the whole car!
I hope you're as dumb as the guy who stole my truck for a joy ride about 20 years ago. My camera bag was plainly visible on the back seat. Inside was an expensive Nikon SLR. It was still there when the truck was recovered.
I can see it coming–a gas tank with a false bottom armed with a stink bomb!

Hopefully one of those morons finds themselves on the wrong side of physics, and the friction of the bit against the metal of the tank causes an explosion.
Check my block list because you're probably on it. -

Yes. That’s the character simply referred to as “The Golden Boy”. Unfortunately, the relationship boomeranged, when the two sought out a 3rd party to help out with their relationship woes, in the form of Feral Kid Counseling Services, LLC.
