Why do we have to wait so long? There was a break in the season before Christmas and again now!
What's going on? Show it and start making Season 3 already! -

I thought it was mentioned elsewhere, that they did the short S1, then a S2 and Fox decided to commission a full season run, so they are making them now.
I think they showed the completed ones over Xmas and the rest are being doing now, with the intention to finish the season through May and June and then commission S3 for a full run for later this year/next yearMade you look

thanks for the explanation. i agree with the OP - there's a sense of abandonment, with them leaving us on a cliffhanger, just as lucifer has abandoned chloe/everyone. sad and not so nice, but knowing WHY does make it better. and i'm glad to hear that the network expanded their order for this wonderful show!

That break was poorly timed. They should have continued with what they had and ended it in December with the break until the last episodes occurring then. It would have worked out better if they had done that. It just took me out of it when I had to readjust to all the development after more than a month break between Chloe and Lucifer's kiss. This latest one with Lucifer leaving everything for a soul searching mission is a more fitting big break finale.
It has been fun fellow message board users. -

But all the networks had hiatuses in December. Too much specialty programming, people too busy for tv, etc. It wasn't an out of the ordinary move for Lucifer to take a break just like many other shows did. The 3 episode arc was a little odd, but at least it was self-contained. And again, many shows are breaking their seasons up into so many pieces they're almost impossible to keep track of. I'm not a fan, but it's not unusual.

If they didn't take that break the 26th of September, they would have only two episodes to air, and they would have finished around the time most of them went on break, the 12th of December. So I just never saw the rationale.

This is interesting:

APB and 24 Legacy didn't open with nearly as good numbers as Lucifer did when it premiered around the same time of year as a mid-season replacement. Doesn't bode super well for them. (I really like Len Wiseman and Matt Nix (APB), so I hope that changes.)
The cancel bear has Lucifer as a toss-up for renewal, although comments by those in the know seem pretty optimistic. The one thing keeping it a bit iffy is that the show isn't owned by Fox, who has until May to decide. I remember last year, they went right down to the wire before announcing the season 2 renewal.

its absolutely rubbish. When networks treat shows this badly, and fob them off so lazily, its exactly what turns viewers off and stops them coming back and then they wonder why the show doesnt do the numbers they want and then they cancel them.
I dont think this will get a third season.. theyre just not interested enough in giving the show a fair chance. We already had one midseason break, now another 3 episodes, and then its off air again. What a waste, its the only show i genuinely care about watching, and these idiots are throwing it under the bus.
