One of the things people have been most curious about for Season 6 is how are the flashbacks going to continue. The showrunners have indicated there will still be regular flashbacks, even though Oliver's five year narrative is done.
But there is a further avenue for future flashbacks (perhaps even on a semi-regular basis). Hiatuses. Both between seasons and within seasons (during the winter breaks).
They already tried this approach with the Arrow Season 2.5 comic-book series - why not do so on the show itself.
    Some periods of interest include-
-Hiatus between Season 2 and 3. Yes, its been explored in the comic, but we don't know if that's 100% canonical to the show. With Oliver and Roy fighting side by side and Oliver for the first time really getting some traction on cleaning up the city - this period is ripe fodder for flashbacks, especially if a present-day story has Roy returning.
-Midseason hiatus in Season 3. Well, it'd have to be more the gap between, say, 3x11 and 3x12 because of the wonkiness of the timeline. But this is a period of time when Oliver is missing, presumed dead, and the city is going to crap. It is ALSO a time when Laurel is starting out as Black Canary. Might be worthy of further exploration, especially as a parallel to the arc of the present-day Black Canary (whoever she ends up finally being). Or Roy.
-Hiatus between Season 3 and 4. Oliver and Felicity may have 'retired' from the team, but Diggle, Thea and Laurel were still defending the city (and it wasn't just HIVE). This would be a great way to get to see Laurel as Black Canary again - maybe even see her on solo missions and get a glimpse at the 'Black Canary legacy' that we're always told about but rarely got to see. Perhaps a past mission of Laurel's during this period ties into something in the present-day arc of the current Black Canary (be it E2 Laurel or Dinah Drake).
-Hiatus between Season 4 and 5. Oliver going solo again. Nuff said! Plus, wouldn't mind seeing the beginnings of his administration.

All the cool stuff happens in between seasons
      But good idea
It would be interesting if the first scene is this big wtf moment and the flashbacks lead up to it
