For me, Brandon as well. I loved Christopher Reeve's Superman and just watched one through four last weekend and Superman Returns this weekend. Brandon picked up the character where Reeve left it, and it doesn't hurt that they look similar to each other.
Henry is a meaner more stoic version of Superman, and while Man of Steel was still good, it wasn't really faithful to the franchise. It was more like Superman on steroids with a bit of Transformers action for those viewers who need to see action in order to appreciate film.
That being said, Brandon made me remember Reeve while Henry made me think of X-men. -

Why do people keep repeating this? Routh's Superman and Clark Kent was nowhere near similar to Reeve's considering that they're supposed to be the same character. One of the many complaints that first came out about this movie was that Superman was more quiet and sullen and Clark Kent was actually more subdued and less bumbling. The character seemed toned down for all intents and purposes.

Cavill looks look Superman from the comics. Routhlooks like Christopher Reeve's kid. A baby faced Superman is a massive no-no. Cavill has the right chiseled masculine look for the character.

I prefer Brandon Routh.I think he is more handsome, and he looks more like Christopher Reeve.
Henry might play any other Marvel heroe but I would not choose him exactly for Superman, maybe he would have been a good Bruce Wayne/Batman or Green Lantern or Arrow because he looks more like a tough guy,and Superman had the traits much more refined and cute. The nose was smaller, the lips more defined, the dimple in the chin..I think Brandon has more the type for that.He gives the image of a sweet and calm Superman while Cavill offers a Superman image more aggresive or tough..
The thing that bothers me with these new Superman is,that they act a bit like robots.A bit cold, boring..I think Chris Reeve brought more emotions to the character becoming it more human.Sometimes he acted like a normal guy, not a superhero and it was believable, however as much Henry as Brandon acted a bit icy and the love story with Lois doesnt take off for me..It is like there is something missing, a lack of chemistry or a better story for them.
However Chris Reeve and Margot Kidder were great playing Lois and Superman, the love story between them were beautiful and realistic.Maybe that is what I dont see in these new films, Lois and Superman sometimes act more like friends than as a couple.. -

I didn't answer this?
Henry is better in looks physique and personality. People may say he's mopey but he isn't wooden like Brandon. Sorry to say but Routh was just doing a bad Reeves impersonation.- BVS 2. TWS 3. Avenger

I believe that the main difference has a lot to do with not only how old you are, but the kind of action films you like.
I am no spring chicken, but I am not that old either. I can appreciate violence and darkness in a character, but I think trying to do an "update" on a classic character changes the whole thing.
To me, the first time I saw Superman on a screen, was in re-runs of the 1950's black and white series, and on cinema, was with Christopher Reeve as Superman. His performance was to me, the best I have seen, and to me, that is the Superman image I will keep in my heart until I die. His awkward and naive moments as Clark made him endearing and the perfect disguise from his Superman alter-ego.
So when SR came out, I was elated! Not only for the resemblance to my favorite Superman (Chris R), but also because the character remained true to some of the things that made Superman a beloved hero. That same look of "what?, what did I miss?" or the "Huh?" moments, made me love SR in a way that I have not experienced since the first time I saw Superman I.
Fast forward almost 50 years since the original, and the comics have changed, have become darker, and I have lost some of the old amazement they used to hold on me.
I am a firm believer of "If it isn't broken, why fix it?"
Now, the new Superman (darker one), is geared towards people who is ok with tweaking things around and revamping the character to make things more interesting, and that's ok. There are many out there who love it in a way they could never love the old one, which they probably consider too "Vanilla".
And those are the fans that appreciate Henry Cavil as the best performer. However to me, I can indulge darkness in a character that has always have some darkness as part of the original persona (ie: Batman), and if it gets darker, I pretty much won't complain; but when you change a character trait and introduce something that was not there from the beginning, it is no longer the original character. In my opinion, it becomes a new character with a semblance of the original.
For me, Superman is and always will be light, a character that always lives in the light, something that I love to see little kids imitate and let them feel like the good guy super hero. However, I am not so sure if I would like a 6 year old emulate the current comic books Superman, and the Superman that Henry C portrays. (Too dark, too violent for someone so young)
For a more mature audience the new Superman doesn't seem like a bad deal, and that's ok. (To each their own)
However, I will always keep to the more lighter closer to the original, and to me that's Brandon. He, and the entire SR movie are the embodiment of the original character, the way it was written originally, by the original creators, in a time when things were simpler, when everyday hate, violence, and death, were not something everyone was not surprised to see all the time, eventually becoming second nature.
Give me an escape from the things that every day remind me that my world is not filled with things I wish my children will never experience, where my super heroes are the complete opposite to that which I seek to escape from, and allow me, if even for 154 minutes to feel a bit lighter.
So for me, Brandon and SR are the embodiment of everything I love.
Well done SR, Well done Brandon.
