Or do they rely on the heat vision way too often? She has all of supermans powers and yet that tends to be the go to. Is it the cheapest effect out of them all making it a budget thing?

I wish she would use her super strength more often. It would look cooler in a lot of situations.

I wish they'd just be consistent with her super strength. When she picked up the key to the Fortress of Solitude and opened the door, Jimmy Dullsen said it was "a million tons of compressed dwarf star" or something to that effect, and yet she picked it up and wielded it as easily as a baseball bat. Then when she had to fly Fort Raz (sp?) out of Earth's atmosphere - which weighed a million tons according to General Lane - she struggled. Doesn't matter how big it was, a million tons is a millions tons. And besides, I believe that anything weighing a million tons and structured like that fort, would fall apart on itself the minute it was picked up - or she'd just punch a hole in it with her body when she applied enough force to lift it.
And while I'm on the subject or her flying the fort out of Earth's atmosphere, why did she need to be rescued from space by Alex? Superman flies out in space all the time, never has trouble breathing or generating thrust - so why should Supergirl?

They do not have the budget they had while at CBS, so I think that is the reason for reliance on her heat vision.

She's just a flying alien as far as they portray her. She's never smart or clever, she can't fight hand to hand combat, and she has no ideas of her own. It's like all of these intelligent, useful people are controlling this mindless robot. It's frustrating to watch.
