This episode pretty much seems to set in motion that Joe will be the one to die. First, Iris elects not to tell him about the future, so he'll be in the dark the rest of the season. Then there's this episodes subplot of Joe telling Barry to lighten up on Wally and encourage him more. THEN to drive the knife in further, that really sweet moment of both of Joe looking like a proud father as his 2 sons Wally and Barry stand side by side. It all seems to add up that Joe will die satisfied knowing his kids can take care of themselves.

At first the future scenario from The Present unfortunately reminded me of Arrow season 4, but nothing will be as bad as Arrow S4, so I'm hopeful. What I'm wondering is if we'll get an episode where we have to say farewell to Singh and Joe becomes Captain. The factor that gives me hope for Joe surviving is that seems like a very fast turnover for CCPD captains.

I think it will be Wally. He will try too hard to be a hero, and will pay the price for it. Might be too dark for the show, though.

^ There's no way it will be Wally, not after they made him Kid Flash this season. I think Wally is safe for a long time at least.
It's likely going to be Joe West, sadly.

Yeah, I like Wally, but I don't think people would be as upset at his death as they would Joe's and I think that's what the writers are aiming for, a MAJOR character death. Wally has a lot more story to tell and needs more time for the viewer to really love his character. Killing him off would tick people off for much different reasons than killing Joe off.
