First of all, in the "real" comic universe, Superman and Batman have a huge imbalance of powers. Superman is MUCH more powerful than Batman. That doesn't make Batman a less interesting character.
Secondly, Batman and Superman do not have intrinsically different ends. They're both after the same ends, more or less.
What this film tries to do, is squander any chance of a good story, to contrive a situation in which Batman can have powers comparable to Superman's, and to a less extent, Superman can have less powers so Batman can have a chance of beating him. This film also tries to come up with an artificial situation in which Batman and Superman have to fight each other.
Face it, the plot was invented by a five-year-old with a pair of action figures.

    Imagine that.

The fact that the stoking of Batman's suspicious nature and philosophical aversion to Superman was supplanted by the absolutely-f'cking-LAUGHABLE manipulation of Superman into "fighting," by kidnapping his mother, is just one of many things I will never forgive this movie for.
I mean, it's like 50's era, comic book-level CAMP, in a movie that was trying so hard not to be that. That unnecessary part of the plan (which really only served the purpose of setting up the flat-fallen "Martha" moment) was so incredibly stupid that, once on the battlefield, Superman didn't take one moment to consider actually going through with it. Sure, he made that throw-away line to Lois about how he might "have to kill him," but did Lex not thing, for one moment, that just MAYBE Superman and Batman would find themselves with just a few seconds of talk-time during their "fight night?" Just long enough for Superman to say: "Hey. Dude. Put down the batarangs for a moment. You know that slimy little weasel, Lex, that you obviously don't like? Well, he said he'd kill my mother if you and I didn't have a battle to the death. Let's join forces and take that little sh!t down."
        Ridiculous. It was f'cking ridiculous.

Actually the plot was invented by numerous comic book writers.
Batman and Superman have the same ends in BvS too, they both wants to save the world. But Batman thinks killing Superman is the way to do that. That's why he's the antagonist.
Yes, the situation is artificial. Much like the reason for many people being racist and fascist are artificial in real life.
Have you also heard of kryptonite? It's been part of Superman lore for decades.

I agree. It was just not believable and nonsensical, to the point that I didn't even care. You could tell they were either running out of ideas, orjust wanted an excuse to have two superhero's fight each other for the first time. Either way it was beyond stupid, I was bored, I knew neither one of them would die, and therefore I did not even care. So predictable, and it just went on and on and on and on I couldn't wait for it to be over. One of the dumbest movies I have seen right up there with the last Transformers. (I liked every other Batman film I have ever seen too, and most comic book films I like a littlethis was a bad mix of boththe WORST batman I have ever seen and the most boring and stupid comic book movie mixed in one.)
