    1. The Sony/Marvel relationship has never been contentious.
    2. The reason they made it part of the MCU is pretty simple. Sony and Marvel both thought it would make each or their companies more money.

This is also what I was trying to convey in my thread but in taking the road of source material/canon of Spidey, most took it as a comparison to this new movie and stomped on me like the Hulk.

I didn't read your thread but ill look for it. Another reason i think it wasn't necessary to put hom in the MCU is that after the avengers films are over with, Thor and Cap and the other characters films (usually after a 3RD solo film) are over with whereas Spider-Man will have many films and spin-off films long after the avengers stuff is done.

is that after the avengers films are over with, Thor and Cap and the other characters films (usually after a 3RD solo film) are over with whereas Spider-Man will have many films and spin-off films long after the avengers stuff is done.
We don't know yet for sure that those characters will be done with. Evans has still expressed interest in being Cap, same with Hemsworth as Thor.
Not to mention, even if they never make another Thor or Cap solo (and Feige has said that they're open to going the recasting route if the actors ever decide not to return), there is a reason that they're continuing to introduce new characters, like Ant-Man, like Doctor Strange, like Black Panther, like Captain Marvel, etc So that even if they let their initial heavy hitters like Thor and Cap have a break for a few years on the solo film front, they have other characters that they can continue to explore in this connected universe.
A couple years ago, Feige said that the MCU road map (at the time) took them to about 2028 and that it was an ever expanding roadmap (so it probably goes beyond 2028 at this point).
So the "Avengers" (and other MCU) stuff can continue on just as the Spider-Man films can and Spider-Man can continue to be a part of them so long as the relationship between Sony and Marvel remains a good one (which it generally has been otherwise there wouldn't have been this deal to begin with. Now Fox and Marvel, that's a relationship that's been full of contention). There's no sign or indication of the "Avengers stuff" - or the MCU in general - hitting a 'done' point.
Look, we've had 5 straight movies that all told us the same message of Spider-Man working alone because people around him get hurt and what not. Having him pal around a bit with some other superheroes - having it show that he can be part of something bigger I don't think is going to hurt anything. It doesn't mean he's always going to be palling around with them, he can still work on his own in the future but for now, having gotten the same thing so many times from the previous Sony films, I see no problem with them trying something new.

That's like asking is it possible to drive a car without a car. Spider-Man is Marvel, the Avengers is Marvel, it's a Marvel universe with everything Marvel in it, I don't want to be harsh but this question is high on stupid.

Very simply, Marvel's profit motive behind this is that as part of the MCU Spider-man crossovers in other MCU films can boost ticket sales, and team ups (whether in solo Spider-man movies or in other movies) have the potential to increase merchandising revenue. Spider-man merchandise makes a lot of money; $1.3 billion in 2013. In contrast, the whole of the Avengers, despite their increased box office success, made $325 million that same year. Several movies later, the Avengers likely were able to boost that number a bit, but Marvel wants to A) Use Spider-man to boost it even higher and, B) Increase Spider-man's profits higher still.
The idea is that better Spider-man movies will generate better Spider-man merchandising revenue (which Marvel collects 100% of the profits from thanks to a 2011 revised agreement with Sony where Sony ceded the movie merchandising rights back to Marvel) and that a percentage of those Spider-man fans will now think to buy an Iron Man or Captain America toy to pair with their Spider-man toy since they've seen them together in the movies, thus increasing Avenger merchandise sales.
So, yes, it's necessary for Spider-man to be in the MCU if Marvel is going to work on his solo films because there is not enough of a profit motive for them to do otherwise. Marvel doesn't get a cut of the box office revenue from solo Spider-man films, Sony would likely have tried again on their own rather than give Marvel a cut, and with or without a cut Marvel would be taking time away from a MCU film they could be making instead. That means instead of helping Sony with Spider-man, they could make a film whose profits they get 100% of and who they can team up with other characters to boost the profits of other films by combining audiences and then sell increased levels of merchandise for.
What you're proposing is that Marvel be charitable and give up potential earnings to service the kind story you want to see. But that's not how things work; merchandising and other revenue concerns drive, to some degree or another, what we end up seeing on screen.

It was a serious question. How old are you exactly? I'm 28 years old and I have been Spider-Man fan all my life; I've been collecting comics since I was a little kid and I've seen every movie, every cartoon, and know the character's entire history up to about 2007 or so. And I never said it wasn't cool or that I didn't like that he's in the MCU, I asked based on Spider-Man's character history if it was actually necessary.

Especially since none of the MCU films are any good and Homecoming won't be an exception.

Its wasnt necessary but why wouldnt Marvel Studios want Spidey? Why would they refuse an appealing deal with Sony? And who wouldnt want Spidey to be in the MCU teaming up with the other Marvel characters?

I firmly support the idea that Spider-Man should be a loner for the most part.
However, I will point out that in the comics all the heroes (and 10x more) from the MCU exist. So having him in the MCU rather than some sort of solo universe won't hurt in any way their ability to tell proper Spider-Man stories.
I don't want him to ever be an Avenger in the films but I would love it if he had the odd team-up.
Reading my signature constitutes admission that I am correct. (Too late)

You know, he either turned down membership or his membership fell through for decades before he was ever made an Avenger in the comics. Whole groups of people, therefore, know Spider-man only as an occasional ally to the Avengers with the idea of him becoming a member being a running joke (which, actually, is his status in the movies at the moment).
He first gained membership in the 1990s, I think, and only became a staple in the 2000s so if you know him as an Avenger it's because of that era in comics. So, yeah, he is an Avenger or he's not depending on what era you're a fan of. Not saying either is better or worse, just pointing out you may be talking to people who are in the first group.

In my opinion the only other Marvel superheroes Spider-Man works really well with are Daredevil and the Fantastic Four and even then recurringly so I'm not enthused that the MCU does seem to be and may increasingly be crossover-centric. Tony Stark especially seems like a character Spider-Man wouldn't necessarily like or get a lot of mentoring from.
