Stuff you'd like to see explored in future flashbacks…

Either in Season 5, or moving forward (especially given that Oliver's five years away are going to be done by the end of Season 5).
In terms of specific character backstories and events or 'gaps' in the timeline.
Here are a few thoughts I've had-
-I'd really like some flashbacks to explore Oliver's time in Coast City, in the five month gap between the flashback arc at the end of Season 3 and the start of Season 4. This is the period of time when Oliver first donned the hood to become a vigilante and I feel it was neglected in a truly criminal fashionwith us getting to see something like two minutes of the end of what was probably one of the most significant periods of Oliver's backstory. Why did Oliver decide to become a vigilante, that too in a city not his own? What really happened to him between leaving Hong Kong and his ill-fated chase of that drug-dealer? Its a period of Oliver's life which definitely warrants some revisiting in the future.
-Roy Harper, whenever he returns, needs an episode with flashbacks. He's the ONLY major character to date who's pre-Season 1 backstory is a total blank. We know next to nothing about his family and his life prior to his first encounter with Thea Queen. Its something I seriously hope is rectified in a future episode, especially if said past could tie into a present-day reason for Roy to return to Star City.
-Malcolm Merlyn's time with the League of Assassins and his history with Ra's al Ghul. Something that could admittedly be done on LoT as well since he's now on that show. But I'd really like to see how Merlyn evolved from the guy we saw briefly in the Season 3 flashbacks to his wife's death and its aftermath, to the arch-villain and terrorist he would eventually become. Also, how exactly did Merlyn serve Ra's as his 'Horseman'? What was so special about Merlyn that Ra's released him from the League. A lot of worthwhile questions there which at any rate would make for a better Merlyn story than ANYTHING in Season 4.
-The gap between Season 3 and Season 4, with Oliver and Felicity out of town and Black Canary, Spartan (not yet named) and Speedy protecting the city. There was probably more to this period of time than just fighting random 'Ghosts'. Its actually a pretty significant time for all these characters - this is basically the beginning of Thea's life as a vigilante (which we didn't get to see on-screen AT ALL). Laurel's also growing as the Black Canary during this time. And Diggle is for once the leader and carrying out the crusade independent of Oliver. Plus - how does the city react to these vigilantes shortly after the original vigilante, the Arrow, was accused of murder, outed, and then killed? At some point, it would be worth getting a glimpse of this period of time again. Maybe something happened during this period that crops up in a future episode, necessitating a flashback.
-Sara Lance's four years between the Amazo and showing up in Starling City at the start of Season 2. Again, something which could also be dealt with on LoT. Her first meeting with Nyssa is definitely something which should be on the cards. But also her first meeting with Ra's, her League training and indoctrination, and becoming an assassin. Basically, there's a HUGE chasm between Sara in the Season 2 flashbacks and present-day Sara - one which hasn't been filled yet.

I would like to see Sara's and Merlyn's history too. Apart from that:
-Ra's and Damien's history
-Tatsu. Period between the last time we saw her and guarding the lotus
-Ragman's father. How he got a hold of those magic 'rags'
-how Reiter's idol came to be in Darhk's possession? It's the same one right? Was that ever explained? I can't remember
-How Anatoly came to be on the Amazo? Was that explained?
-I would like to have more info on Robert Queen. Not only as a member of that Cabal
-Adrian Chase's history if he's still with us by then
Do you mind if I have a piece of your thigh? It would complement this fine '76 chiraz -

On the Sara and Merlyn frontit was sure great to see them interact in the last LoT episode. It occurred to me that that was the first time we actually saw them interact on-screen, despite the fact that they have a lot of shared backstory.
As far as Robert Queen goesif they ever explore E2 Arrow history, I'd sure like some flashbacks to his backstory and life as the Hood. Maybe if Laurel is the E2 version going forward, it could tie into her backstory.

There could do some of Lance early years as a cop espcially pre-island days and the many criminal he caught. One of them could return to haunt him or something. It be similar to Dollmaker but maybe even worse like someone in a gang.

Sara's flashbacks is something that will definitely be interesting. We have seen Oliver's path to becoming the Hood, all his pain and torture and training, but it will be completely different story to see Sara's struggles and misery to become the Canary and protector of women. It will be definitely darker and scarier.
From the little glimpses we see about her past it seems very dark past. The fact that she was ready to die but not to go back to the league also speaks for that.
It seems that she perceived her life in the league equal to being death. In the end she went back only because she felt unworthy and unwanted and the smile on her face was only to fool her family that she will be alright.
But if we see her flashbacks on Legends probably they will be with lighter tone to fit the show.
Oliver's flashbacks on Coast city is something also very interesting. He did something similar to what he started in Starling City, but without the experience.
I also want to see more flashbacks from the Hood times. I miss the lonely wolf on a mission to help the common people.
