.Updates their current technology? Let's say for example this person went from watching movies on VHS tapes back in the day, to DVDs, then Blu-rays, and then after that it was either 4K Blu-rays or 3D Blu-rays.
Now, with me I decided to just stick with uh, standard DVDs, and maybe some standard Blu-rays, none of that 4K or 3D crap. -

I would say me although I am not as bad as I used to be. I also don't use disks anymore so own no Blu-ray of any sort but I am trying to convince myself that I don't need to get two Titan X at the moment which I totally don't need I don't even push my 980TI lol.
To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock -

I think a lot of it depends on how fast they upgrade their tech.. Like when Blu-Ray came out, they also came out with HD-DVD as a competing technology and we all see how that turned out.
Something else is the new tech a vast improvement? like going from VHS to DVD was a huge difference in everything from space your library took up to never having to rewind a tape again. then bonuses like DVD's having special features, etc. things VHS didn't have.
Me personally, I'm kind of a "Ride it til the wheels fall off" type. like just this year I finally changed over to Blu-Ray because DVD is getting phased out. I had to buy the Blu-Ray copy of Force Awakens to get the DVD and then saw that all the bonus stuff was on the Blu-Ray. I'm a fan of bonus content so if even new releases on DVD are going to look like stripped down rental copies, it's time to upgrade. And the jump is about as huge as VHS was to DVD. Blu-Ray players are like fully tricked out smartphones with all their apps while even my newest upconversion DVD player was still the equivalent of an old flip phone. I go out of my way to buy everything now with digital copies, that's dependent on active internet so I prefer having a hard copy laying around. plus those digital copies won't be there forever.
Just got a 4K HDTV but that's only because it was the black friday deal, wasn't looking for 4K, don't plan on using it, but it's nice that the option is there as I don't upgrade everytime something new hits the shelves and if 4K becomes the standard, I'm set, if not, never cared anyways.
Now people that are waiting in line for the newest stuff to hit the shelves are foolish, as everything new needs a shakedown period where they work the bugs out, or, like in the HD-DVD 's case, it turns out to be a doomed format, but I see nothing wrong with enjoying superior technology. Thanks to Batmeh v Supermeh Yawn of Justice, the "S" now stands for Sidekick
