What happened to the X Men?

In the Old Man Logan comic the supervillians banded together and eliminated most of the heroes in one night. Mysterio tricked Logan into killing most of the Xmen.
The Reavers (the people chasing after them in the trailer) might take the role of the supervillains in this film. Maybe they coordinated an attack that wiped most of them out.
Better yet, why not just find out when you watch the movie?

It was a beep I don't have all the names lol. You might want to google it.
I believe it is implied he actually killed all or most of them. Everyone from Jubilee to Storm, Gambit etc.

Supposedly the next trilogy will focus on Jean Grey and her Phoenix powers. So in between the events of Apocalypse and Logan, the Phoenix is released and the X-Men band together to stop her, but are all killed in the process, leaving Wolverine to kill her just like he did in X3.

That doesn't sound correct. Especially given that Jackman is retiring from the character and there is no way to do what you described without his Wolverine being a key presence. I am pretty sure that they are following the basic essence of OML storyline where Logan was a central reason to the death of many X-Men.

Just because Jackman is retiring doesn't mean they'll just STOP using Wolverine. He's one of their most popular/bankable characters. If they do the Phoenix saga they'll use that as an opportunity to recast Wolverine and introduce his character.

They probably will stop using Wolverine for a while, at least until they do an actual reboot to the X-Men. Between Deadpool, Mystique, Magneto, and Gambit (if Channing Tatum stays on the project) they'll probably bank on them. X-23 being introduced as Wolverine is retiring probably isn't a coincidence either. I doubt they'll do the Phoenix saga, since X3 already went there and screwed it up - they'll prboably want to keep distancing themselves from X3 and there's no point in keep making Jean a villain.

My guess would be slain by the Reavers.
In the comics (around Uncanny X-Men #251) the X-Men are all believed to be dead, except for Wolverine, he's the last survivor of the team, and the Reavers catch up with him, capture him, torture him and leave him to die in the desert (but he is saved at the last moment of life by the 1st appearance of Jubilee, who Laura is undoubtedly taking the place of in this film). This movie is probably running with that premise.
The X-Men aren't actually dead as it turned out, but they did have their memories erased and were scattered to the four corners of the Earth, to protect them from being found and murdered by Donald Pierce and his Reavers, who were hunting them all.
So the X-Men are dead, or possibly mind-wiped by Xavier to protect them (it does seem as if Xavier himself has had his mind wiped as well).
