Bad: Bit of waste of a talented, fantastic cast (4 mins for Richard Dreyfus?) to deliver a few smart-arse one-liners, and play with the CGI / SFX. Was like watching a 70s Roger Moore Bond movie, without the understatement. A disappointment.
Good: Anyway, thought John Malkovich was great! Stole the film.
Comment: The NRA must sponsor these films! When I was younger, you saw cars in films and thought "I want". Goodness knows what some people think when they see films like these.

      Lol to the NRA comment!
I too just saw it on channel 4 and I was dissapointed too. Seeing as RED 2 is coming out I thought hey it must be good if its getting a 2nd film.
      The climax was so Meh.

It was one of the better action films I have seen recently. A good combination of action and humour.
        Its that man again!!

I thought the first third was excellent, Willis and Parker had chemistry and threw themselves into their respective roles. Later it got bogged down in cameos and the necessities of plot, plus the irritating music, but on the whole it was above par for this sort of film.

I have to disagree with you, I had completely written off this film, I thought an action film for aging stars may not be my cup of tea, but as a fan of Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Bruce Willis I thought I would give it a go. I like action films but it's not my Favorite genre unless done right.
In my definition this film was done right, it had good comedy; the action weren't too far fetched except for the part where the CIA guy jumps on the car. The cast had great chemistry and it was fairly easy to watch.
For an action film I weren't expecting masterpieces but this was great fun to watch and I could easily watch it again.

Same here. I liked it better than I expected.
Willis and Parker had chemistry with Bruce underplaying his role well. The ensemble cast were great and played it straight and just let the laughs naturally comee.g.Helen Mirren and large automatic weapons. I liked Karl Urban as the tenacious CIA blood hound, who also kept his family foremost in his thoughts. It's not Oscar material, but undeniably entertaining.
A lot of posters have commented unfavourably about the musical score, but I didn't find it intrusive at all.

I didn't think it was good at all. The only funny person in the film was John Malkovich and the plot absolutely sucked.

Agree with op. It was just ok to me. Loved Mary Louise Parker & Helen Mirren, but the movie itself was just so so.
I also laughed at the NRA comment by op. I kept joking around to my family, "man the NRA must be having a serious orgasm watching this!!". I mean the gun shots & explosions got REALLY old after the first half hour.

i think this was better than many action films that have come out at the same time or since, marvs character cracked me up as well as bruce willis kidnapping his soon to be girl, this film stuck out, its one that if its on ill watch it, the action is great, the comedy is great, the premise of retired agents is great, these people do retire you know!, red 2 picks up where this left off and is great in its own right and everyone ive recommeneded this to has enjoyed it, i for one am glad bruce willis made this movie, and id go as far as sayin its better than doie hard 4 or 5 as an all round movie but not as good as first 3.3

saw it a few days ago, and I really enjoyed it !
Think Willis is very good in this , Malkovich was hilarious.

I just watched this. I wanted to like this, and the elements are there. The plot is as forgettable as they make it - I described the plot to a friend who'd seen it 2 years earlier, and he was surprised, no recollection whatsoever - but that's not what angered me.
It's the running time, and the %&#/"! sloppy editing. 1 hour 51 minutes for this? At about 90 minutes this would've been ok. Now it just went on and on and on and
Shame. The characters were funny, and the action was alright. mark is right, Malkovich stole the show.
