The 9 Lives of Catwoman - Who's Your Favorite Catwoman? Vintage Pics and a poll.

Judging from the teasers, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises promises to be another must-see summer movie, not least for the anticipation of Anne Hathaway's being cast as Catwoman. Anne has some impressive spandex to fill, however, against such feline luminaries as Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, and and Michelle Pfeiffer, each with her own brand of Gotham catitude. Check out our treasury of vintage images of Catwomen from NYPL's Billy Rose Theatre Division and then take a sec and scratch your vote for the most purrfect Catwoman. -

I believe that Adam West already answered this question for us when he said, " The only true Catwoman is Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, or Eartha Kitt."
What kind of a man is Captain Renault?
Oh, he's just like any other man, only more so. -

I would actually agree with him had he stopped after Ms. Newmar. But I will always have a place in my heart for Lee Meriwether; in her Space Ghost Coast to Coast appearance, she answered this question, "I believe Julie Newmar is the favorite, Eartha Kitt is second, and I . . . am third." Modest, gracious, graceful, and, yes, Ms. Meriwether, true.

And Eartha Kitt is just plain talented. My cat, Charlie, just purred when she hit those sibilants! And he would wake up to watch the screen whenever Julie Newmar played Catwoman! I suppose he would know. . . . -

I haven't seen them all. Julie Newmar is great as Catwoman. Fun and playful

I've only seen the TV show. So I don't know about Pfeiffer, Berry or Hathaway.
I like all three of the TV catwomen, but Julie is my favorite. Very fun and playful and more than a bit mesmerising. I loved her guest shot on 2nd season episode of Columbo. And then, of course, she was at least part of the inspiration for "To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything, JN". That would have had to please her!

Those guys were so good in To Wong Foo, I especially enjoyed Swayze
At first, Swayze tried playing Boheme like a caricature, but he quickly realized that wouldn't work.
Swayze on TODAY in 1995.
“Ms. Vida in many ways propels the emotional throughline, and she had to be filled with love and compassion and a nurturing spirit,” he told Gumbel. “And I found in rehearsal, every time I started playing her like Miss Thing, you know, and going out there and being outrageous, like I naively thought I was going to get to, I realized that I'll blow this character. She had to be real.”
Swayze modeled the character after his mom as well as his former “Ghost” co-star Demi Moore, Lauren Bacall and Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany's.”
While his mother didn't approve of his decision to appear in drag, Swayze said his wife, Lisa Niemi, embraced it, even helping him work on his walk.
“Just think of it this way, darling: You’re not losing a husband — you’re gaining a girlfriend," Swayze told her after landing the part.
Before filming began, Swayze did a bar crawl of New York's best drag clubs, including Escuelita, Boy Bar, the Tunnel and Sally's Hideaway with his co-stars. Swayze said he made many drag queen friends that night and learned more about how dressing up in drag comes from a place of happiness for many drag queens.

That's awesome!
I like all three of the main actors and it's hard to choose a favorite. Wesley Snipes might be the funniest one for me, but Patrick definitely gives the movie it's heart and soul and, if nothing else, his presence alone makes TWF superior to "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" for me.
I watched Barbara Walters interview Patrick a few months before he died, and though she was her usual horrid self, Patrick just shone. He also said he was his daddy's boy through and through, which was an achingly sweet thing to hear.
