(Sofia Coppola, Anjelica Huston are among the women that generally falls in this category)
I don't think you can put Anjelica Huston into any category that includes the world beautiful. I'm sorry but she looks like a man in drag, with a few too many plastic surgeries gone wrongthere is no easing on the eyes as time goes by with her.

I know the old cliche is "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but I have always thought that Angelica Huston was/is (haven't seen her in any recent films) absolutely stunning, and really does represent the term jolie-laide - not chocolate box pretty but eye-catching and compelling.

I think she was pretty when she was younger.

Wow Geocities. Didn't realize this thread went back so far that you needed a time machine.
I think Lauren Bacall or any actresses from her era with those regal hairstyle had penuche or whatever you spell it, dammit.
Today's women or adolescent so called women all look like cookie 16d0cutter moulds. There is no grace or class. Just a bunch of females trying to out slut one another. Truly sad.

In Designing Woman, Gregory Peck at one point describes Bacall's character as "That ugly girl."
Bacall isn't really ugly, she was hot but she'd disappear if Ava Gardner was in the same room with her. I'm sure even Bacall herself would admit that. She's shown herself to be a frank woman and sometimes she could actually be frank about herself.

Peck's good looking, and Bacall's not ugly at all.

I think the poster meant Peck's character said that, not Peck himself. Am I right?

My post wasn't referring to her now-she looks great for her age. I meant when she was in her prime.

I really doubt Mr. Peck meant that. They were great friends outside of work and had much respect for one another. I believe it was his character in the movie that said that.

An updateI just saw a clip on Lauren Bacall on TCM, which was narrated by Gregory Peck. He was reminiscing about the good ole days and his fond memories of Ms. Bacall. He starts the clip off with "They Had Faces Then . . . and Lauren Bacall had one of the best. She still does . . . " So, obviously, he thought she was a stunner, too.

First of all to the person that said Peck makes them sick and can't act as well. PECK'S CHARACTER CALLED16d0 HER UGLY.
Secondly he only called it because he was hung over and annoyed. The next line is "I'll even be nice to that ugly girl that was bothering me" (see's her) "Must have been another girl!"

but when he looks again, he says, "must have been a different girl!"
I don't think she would disappear in a room with Ava Gardner, though too much presence. She has an unusual, almost harsh look, but very sensual and commanding.
My brother once commented that she looks better older [as in, Dinner At Eight] idunno, I think the same thing of Sean Conneroy.

personally i think lauren bacall was & is stunning. plus she has aged so well & beautifully (like catherine deneuve has) but still i can't help but agree about ava gardner! but then she had a such a raw, natural sexiness - a real broad - that even marilyn monroe (whom i adore btw) would have found it hard (even in her full made up marilyn finery) to out shine ava in a room not just for her looks but for her whole way of being so confident & ballsy
