Swamp Thing. First Craven movie I saw, introduced me to the character, and told me that comics were everything and anything, not just Superheroes. So that is the first on my list. I know it's not a great movie, and this list is in no order. Because it changes all the time. But that movie changed things for me. That movie, and Jim Henson's the Storyteller made me realize the 'monster'is often more human than the hero.
Nightmare on Elm Street. Glad I watched that as a teenager, more so than when many of my friends watched it as kids. I appreciated it far more. The story, the plot elements. The dark elements that aren't spoken of. I think everyone has seen the movie now, so they don't need me to hearken on about it.
New Nightmare. This one is interesting in the changes it makes, notably in telling a new story with similar characters. Folks can talk about Scream, which isn't a bad movie, but I think New Nightmare does it better. Maybe I just prefer horror movies with hints of the supernatural. Or maybe Scream gets shown too often compared the New Nightmare.
        Honorable mention.
The People under the Stairs. This one is more recent, as in I saw it more recently. This was a bit of a surprise to me. I thought the story was dark, and strange. It had some elements of comedy too. Strange thing is that I saw it after Ariel Castro and Josef Fritzl's horrific crimes were exposed. So I could see this happening, and, horribly, it's not the worst story one can imagine. But I think that's how I imagine it works for me. It's horrible, and creepy, but it works because of that. Also, the elements of humour really push the crazy so that its more relatable.
We lost a good one with Craven. He got messed around by producers, sadly. Even when he was an established name. 😞

                          A Nightmare on Elm Street

                          • My ultimate favorite film that impacted me like no other. True nightmares of my childhood that I really wouldn't change for anything. An exhilarating watch every time along with
                            New Nightmare
                            as a satisfying bookend.
                            Scream
                          • Another classic in my eyes. I was fortunate enough to meet Wes and the rest of the cast in person at a pre-screening and Q&A of Scream 4 shortly before it was released. One of the best experiences that I'll never forget and a quadrilogy I'll always enjoy watching.
                            Red Eye
                          • I love that it's not a horror, and he does great in the thriller/action genre. First saw this in theaters when I was just 14 and it was a lot of fun. This film isn't trying to be spectacular or groundbreaking and works best as the simplistic, innocent, roller-coaster ride it is.
