Other than the aforementioned, Howard's End, Instinct, Shadowlands and Meet Joe Black are all worthy of watching.

                  THANKS for complete list.
He was heartbreaking in Mee5b4t Joe Black.
In 1985, I saw him play megalomaniac villain in London live theatre. Such a superb man and actor!

I think kennelly got a bit overenthusiastic as by my standards there are some real stinkers on that list.

LOL yeah, it looks like he randomly picked anything off of the front page in a desperate attempt to look informed. There are some really really REALLY bad films in that list.

I second The World's Fastest Indian, it's a really good film.
I liked Chaplin, Nixon, Hearts In Atlantis, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Hitchcock and 360 as well. And The Elephant Man of course.
I really like Thor (only the Branagh one) but I admit that's not for everyone.

I second The Elephant Man. It was the first film I saw him in, and he was quite lusciously handsome. His subsequent portrayals of terribly repressed men and the monstrous Hannibal Lecter make one see him in a very different light.

I second Hitchcock. I love him in everything but that performance really impressed me.

He was relatively young while leading,
                                When Eight Bells Toll.
A pretty low budget flick, but a physical role for a Hopkins in his mid 30's. It's kind of fun to watch him in an action role.

Probably his first really notable role was as Richard the Lionheart in the truly wonderful "The Lion in Winter". This is a must see movie, even though he only had a supporting role.

Fracture and The Edge are FANTASTIC Hopkins movies. If you haven't seen them yet, do it!!! You won't be disappointed.

It's only been mentioned once, but The Lion In winter might be his best. Though not really because of him, he's still great in it.

Tony was at his freaky best in 'Magic' and made easy money in 'The Rite', both enjoyable films.
