The writer sounds like a bit of an airhead. Typical Hollywood wannabe idiot who can't understand why TLJ would rather be at his Texas ranch, than have to endure a whole afternoon with some random hipster he doesn't even know, asking inane repetitive questions.
- or so the Germans would have us believe

I think people judge him unfairly like he's just an intensely private person who considers acting his job, something he does on screen, and doesn't want it to seep into his private life. And of course he has a short patience even with fans but it's how he is some people love how real and tough he is and others think he's a rude biatch. If you look at this excerpt from the article:
I have to admit, Ive never been around anyone like him, I later said to one of Joness close friends, Bill Wittliff, the Austin-based film producer and screenplay writer who cast Jones as the taciturn, hard-edged Woodrow Call in the famous 1989 miniseries Lonesome Dove.
Witt111cliff chuckled. But isnt that precisely why hes so appealing? Yes, Tommy Lees personality can be very hard, very rough. He has an intensity thats all his own. But its an intensity that very few actors can come close to matching. You watch other actors on-screen, and you know they are having to invent their intensity. Tommy Lee does not. Thats just who he is. Believe me, you only need to be around him a couple of minutes to realize hes not acting.
..you can tell he isn't a fake person and that he doesn't bother with niceties and small talk, and this often gets him in trouble with people. But it's part of what makes him a great actor even his bff knows the score and likes him regardless. -

The interviewer's first question is: 'How does all this succes feel?'
That's the question you ask a newbie that's fallen into some critical acclaim or box office succes, not a heralded and seasoned actor like Jones - even if it's within the context of his second stab at directing.

He probably just knows how to separate his real life from his reel life. That might make him come across as difficult. Movies aren't real life. They are shows. Tommy Lee Jones knows that. He is likely tired of questions that don't seem to know the difference.

In my town, it's rumored that he was eating at a restaurant, and 2 teen girls approached him, asking for an autograph. To this he simply replied, "I'm eating right now". He does have a dick reputation, but this made sense.

Yeah, hard to blame him that he just wants to be left alone to eat in peace.
TBH if I was a celeb I dunno how I would act in public.
I actually might be considered an asshole since I would not want to always bother dealing with them when I was out and about but so be it.

That writer is an asshole! He kept complaining on and on about how Tommy Lee Jones isn't "nice" or "friendly".
What a dick head reporter/writer.
It just goes to show you how reporters and writers take themselves and their writing
too damn seriously.
Poor Tommy Lee. But you know what? He's still a phenomenal actor regardless of what a lot of sensitive snowflake reporters feel about it -
