Tombstone, without a doubt. Oscar worthy performance.

Only seen a handful of his movies, but his performance is the Doors is one of the best I've ever seen. beep the Academy for not even nominating him.

"You know Ed, if I thought you weren't my friend,
I just don't think I could bare it."
        -as Doc in Tombstone,
my favorite, and its not just my favorite performance by Val,
but its one of my favorite performances in film history.

He was sexy in The Saint. Now he's let himself go.

it seems everyone here has beaten Tombstone to death, as they should. Kilmer's Doc is not quite acting a role, but BEING the role.
as his doc holiday is clearly a favourite, i shall choose otherwise. I really enjoyed his work in "The Ghost and the Darkness"

Yup, sounds about right. Though I'd put Tombstone higher

Top Secret hands down. I'm a sucker for a nazi resistance rocknroll comedy.
In fact, I think he should resume his Nick Rivers act.

Performance-wise I'd go with The Salton Sea.

Man, Kilmer's one of my favorite actors.
                      Tombstone
                      and
                      Spartan
feature some of his best acting methinks, but there'll always be a nostalgic place in my heart for Madmartigan: "Why did I listen to you, peck?!" - (mockingly) - "Everything will be all right once we get to Tir Asleen."

Tombstone, The Doors, Heat, KKBB, all excellent, but
'Island of Dr Moreau' as Montgomery, the stark raving mad, drug addict scientist doing his best Marlon Brando impersonation (complete with make-up) - That was absolute gold.

I was surprised Heat wasn't mentioned, one of the best crime movies, his role and the entire cast. He was amazing in The Doors also. I'm not a western fan but Tombstone is mentioned alot.

From his opening scene to his death-bed scene, Whoa! Whoa Daddy!
What he did in Tombstone is mentioned here a lot for a reason.
The range he showed as an actor and the vulnerability he showed
as a human being there aren't too many actors out there that
                                      could've delivered like he delivered.

He was fantastic 2000as Jim Morrison, but the role I really enjoyed was his take on Doc Holiday in Tombstone. Intentionally over-the-top a bit, but not in a "hammy" kind of way.
"Whaddya think, darlin' should I hate him?"
"Evidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man now I really hate him."
"My my my. Such a lot of guns around town and so few brains."
