Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Stephen King

The ones nobody ever really talks about, on here or elsewhere? I never hear anyone discuss Firestarter, the book or the movie. Are there any fans of it? Also, my second favorite King book is The Eyes of the Dragon. I hardly ever see anything about this one either.

Eyes of the Dragon is a popular book, but it does get overlooked when compared to his other books. Particularly with regards to The Stand and The Dark Tower series. Another overlooked one is Thinner. That was the last TRUE Bachmann novel (meaning no one knew who Bachmann really was). Hearts in Atlantis is another, but I think people tend to forget it, again, unless it's in connection to The Dark Tower.

Firestarter is great, really good book. but I don't think its overlooked its somewhat of a classic. The Eyes of the Dragon is also good.
as far as most underrated/overlooked, I would go with these:
        The Tommyknockers
        The Dark Half
        Needful Things
        Gerald's Game

        • The Bachman Books - The Running Man is amazing, sh-t movie though. The Long Walk and Roadwork are both awesome, insane that there haven't been film adaptions to either one. Thinner is also pretty good, haven't seen the movie though.

My favorite work of his, Hearts in Atlantis, doesn't get talked about nearly enough.
The Long Walk and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon are both excellent and underrated.

Loved HiA. Haven't read The Long Walk. And TGWLTG, I found boring.

I'm sorry, but in what world are those two overlooked?! Both are considered to be classics in King's body of work.

Most of the Bachmans are probably overlooked, but "Roadwork" is the best of the Bachmans and, in my opinion, a Top 10 book from King's entire opus. I think if it had been published under the King name, it would be considered a literary classic today.
What else? Hmmmm. I think while "Cujo" is famous, it is often overlooked or dismissed. It has a lot of stuff to say about the disintegration of the ideal American nuclear family, and Donna Trenton is one of the most complex characters in King's work.

great post, Roadwork and Cujo are two of my favorites so I totally agree.
From a Buick 8 is also a very underrated novel.

Dolores Claiborne. It also has an excellent film adaptation with Kathy Bates.
