yah but the difference is mira's career went way down i'm talking can't get any holllywood movie role. we've almes never seen such a dramatic drop off in a career so quickly and so near the beginning of it. i mean she literally started in 1995 then was out of work in big movies by 2000.

For many in the industry, getting an Oscar early in your career is the kiss of death. Everyone treats you differently. People are afraid to hire you. They think you will ask for too much money, they are wary thinking you won't find the part big enough or worthy enoughd. Add to that the possibility that Ms. Sorvino might be attracted to parts that may be fun to do but aren't career builders. Add 4 kids - late in life, enjoying parenthood, and you might miss a particular moment that's illusive yet critical to gaining the next step in your career. It is harder to maintain a career than to shoot to stardom early. It's something that keeps all artists awake at night: what do I do NOW? I think Ms. Sorvino's part picker isn't neccessarily the most acute, and she seems to be happy with that.Sent from my Samsung smartphone on AT&T

@Kalamata Now that you mention it, early on it might be better career-wise to get nominated rather than winning an Oscar.
I'm thinking of Spielberg and Pacino - they got nominated plenty of times early on, which gives a boost without the baggage, but didn't actually win it until later on.

          Kalamata pretty much nailed it.

She's already had more career than most actors and she still has decades to go. I wouldn't call her out of the race just yet.

She has decades to go, seriously! She is 46 years old. She can guest star on TV, but she is old by Hollywood standards. Therefore, her film career kaput!

Why are people surprised anymore? This is how Hollywood works. Even if you're an Oscar-quality talent, if you do enough badly-performing movies (especially consecutively) your career is going to take a hit. As this thread points out, LOTS of actors have had early or even late success in their careers only to stall out because the later box office returns sucked.
It's stupid, but somehow Hollywood blames the actor for the profit margin. I especially hate it when an actor is a good, but underrated movie that tanks.

She has done other films, plus TV work. Check her bio and you will see that. Just because she hasn't done big work doesn't mean she wasn't working.

Are you still upset because McDonald's never gave you that promotion to french fries?

For Sorvino and Basinger, the problem seems to be that they simply chose to star in bad films. After success in Mighty Aphrodite, Sorvino moved on to the dumb horror flick Mimic, dumb action flick The Replacement Killers, dumb comedy Romy & Michelles High School Reunion, dumb sex film Tales of Erotica, and a prominent role in the very dumb box-office bomb Gods & Generals, the worst film of 2003. On the positive side2000 are stints in the critically divisive Summer of Sam and The Grey Zone.
Basinger made mistake after mistake after L.A. Confidential that allowed her post-Oscar hotness cool to ice. First, she waited three years to make another movie. When she did, it was I Dreamed of Africa, which could have been retitled I Dream Of Getting Out Of This Theater. The boring supernatural thriller Bless the Child followed, a pathetic next try at a comeback that made fellow supporting-actress winner Whoopi Goldbergs center-square spot on Hollywood Squaresseem like Shakespeare.

What happened to her career? Harvey Weinstein. She was blacklisted after turning him down.

the main problem with her career is she got famous at such an old age. she was kind of old when mighty aphrodite came out. i remember thinking she looks kind of old in this and that was the first time i had ever seen her, in 1995.
99% of the time when an actress starts out she looks very young, no aging on her face but with her she looked kind of old like 30 years old in ma so this is why her career didn't last that long bc by just 10 years later she looked very old.
