i didn't care much for "short cuts," "gosford park," or much of what i've seen by altman. it's not that i don't think he's a talented filmmaker; he just doesn't typically make the kind of films that i enjoy.
however, i think "images" and "3 women" are amongst the best films i've ever seen. does he have any other films in the vain of these 2 that i might like? i'm thinking about checking out "quintet."

QUINTET will try your patience, but it is an interesting art-house film.

from what i've read about "quintet," it sounds something like a tarkovsky film, and if i can sit through a tarkovksy film, i'm sure i can sit through anything. 😉

Yeah, once you've done Tarkovsky, you're pretty set. You should do BELA TARR next. Or maybe that film, SLEEP I think it's called by Andy Warhol.

Another of the very few female-centred films Altman did is
That Cold Day in the Park
(1969) with a great performance by Sandy Dennis, although it is more influenced by Polanski than Bergman.

I don't know how I'm just seeing this suggestion now, but that sounds interesting. Thanks!
