With Julianne Moore cast as Sarah Palin and Ed Harris as John McCain in an upcoming HBO film about the 2008 campaign, there's been speculation about who should play Barack Obama.
Most of the names bandied about, that I've heard anyway, are the usual, best-known African-American actors (Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Terrence Howard, Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, etc.). But I think Michael Dorn has both the resemblance to the canditate/President, and more importantly the voice, to do it.
And Obama is a Trekkie too.

Nice idea - I'd like to see Mr. Dorn in EVERYTHING, plus I love Obama - but I remember hearing Obama himself say that Will Smith ought to play him. Because of the ears! I think Michael Dorn is too large; Obama may be kinda tall but he's very lanky. Will could lose a bunch of weight (like the way he gained it/buffed up for "Ali"), and he'd be great cuz he's such a good actor. JMHO

Dorn may look Presidential, but Will Smith looks like the president.

Dorn is too handsome and symmetrical of face to play Obama. He looks younger than the president too. Also, Dorn would have to secrete his perfect voice and learn sibilant "S's" for they dominate Obama's speech patterns.

Dorn's voice is too good. Obama's voice is average, not exceptional. That leaves out any of the black actors with great voices.
It's like you've never heard Obama speak. And come to think of it Anitra's right about the sibilance. He needs a better sound man to filter that out.
