And the inexorable march of time has taken from us another giant of the silver screen in the form of John Hurt.
The first time I saw him was in "The Elephant Man". Of course he wasn't really recognizable under all that makeup but I had run across his voice before. He was Aragorn in Ralph Bakshi's "Lord of the Rings". He was Hazel in "Watership Down".
As time went on I saw him more and more. Alien. Midnight Express. The Osterman Weekend. And his spectacular performance as Winston Smith in "1984".
I think the last role I saw him in was the critically underappreciated "Snowpiercer".
Goodbye John and thank you for all the memories.

He was one of my favorite actors. I loved him in The Elephant Man, Midnight Express and 1984. He was truly one of a kind, and it's tragic that he's no longer with us. He will be deeply missed.
