Great actor who took some lousy roles later on.

Honestly, it's impossible for me to imagine anyone else in Murphy's War, A Lion in Winter, or Lawrence of Arabia. I don't think that anyone else can either. That's how good Peter O'toole was. However, he was so obviously miscast in Phantoms that he actually made an awful movie worse. Just his intonation shows how little he fit the part? When O'toole was off, he was way off.
Dramatic actors don't always work well in genre productions. I've heard this mentioned when referring to the change of cast in the Star Trek film series. The whole thing became awkward and fell apart once the producers put dramatic actors in a SciFi-Fantasy-Action film franchise.
Sadly, Hollywood doesn't really make serious films for actors like Peter O'toole anymore. That said, he missed his chance to do fantasy work in modern comicbook films. He was actually good in Supergirl, along with the rest of the cast. Too bad, like Phantoms, no actor could have done anything with that script to make the final result worthy of the big name talent involved. -

"Money, dear Boy." What sad work we have to take on when we need mullah. It's the state of the world. We all have to make a living.

I agree. Have you ever seen the later films of Basil Rathbone? It was the same story: A great and experienced actor looking for a quick paycheck. I guess that this explains a lot of Robert DeNiro's choices today, although he's done some decent comic stuff. He's never going to get another lead role in a film like Taxi Driver or Heat, though he definitely deserves at least one more iconic role IMHO.
