Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jason Patric

Saw Jason Patric in "That Championship Season" last night WOW!!!!!!
This guy has immense talent but he never popped like so many others from his group (pick a better word than group). Seemed strange to see him alongside Kiefer Sutherland AGAIN. Brian Cox was brilliant, how could he not be? Jim Gaffigan was very good and this is coming from someone that can't stand his comedy routines. Chris Noth reminds me too much of a guy dated years ago, so I really don't care for him but he also did a very good job.
Back to Jason Patric, his character was getting drunker and drunker during the performance and he added some really spectacular moments to the play. Thinking of his line moments before intermission still makes me giggle. Even when he was in the background while others were talking I was watching him be drunk. HE WAS FANTASTIC! At one point he fell down a flight of stairs and rolled off onto a landing, I wanted to applaud because it was an amazing piece of stuntwork. Unlike a movie, there was no cut to allow someone else to do the dangerous part, he had to do it himself. The true test of an actor is live performance, no cuts, no do-overs,and being able to forget about all those eyes watching your every move.
This happens every so often, you discover that a "star" is really an actor. Some of you might say that he isn't much of a star, maybe not, be he is one hell of an actor.

I'm watching it right now on "CBS sunday Morning"I didn't know it was an original. I have to see it, Did you know that Jason Patric is the son of the Priest from the original "The Exorcist" and that his father wrote the original "The Championship Season"
