Blofeld in You Only Live Twice. Even though you only see him for a couple of minutes, he's still the image we associate with Blofeld. That's pretty good.
I'm very fond of an episode of The Outer Limits he did, and I'm sorry that I don't remember the name, but he played a mild-mannered scientist who discovers that he has telekenitic powers. Great stuff.
And one of my favorites, though probably not many others, is his performance in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I would pay for a whole CD just for those few seconds of "I Want You" that he sings. -

His best performances were in two great films, THE CARETAKER and in CUL-de-SAC. These 2 movies really made the most of him. The inventiveness he displays from moment to moment is stunning and far outshadows his work in HALLOWEEN. Amazing to think that THE CARETAKER was made some time before CUL-de-SAC, because he is so convincing in THE CARETAKER that you don't even notice he's playing way above his actual age.
Like all the best actors, he had a tremendous physicality. He combined this with great vocal technique, a strong sense of rhythm, a gift for comedy, and great sensitivity.
His character in THE GREAT ESCAPE was the heart of that film. His performance there made me cry when I first saw it as a child. When he says: 'Thank you for getting me out'
But he is always extremely watchable, even when coasting along in lesser films than these.
I think actors like Pleasance show us what humans are really like, not how we want them to be. -

CUL-DE-SAC ('66) directed by Roman Polanski with the beautiful sister of Catherine Deneuve - Francoise Dorleac as his wife. Great film. Also Jacqueline Bisset's first film, I believe.
His 2nd best - THE GUEST (from the Pinter play THE CARETAKER) - 1964 - with Robert Shaw and Alan Bates
Others: The Great Escape, Wedding In White
