He had such a rich a varied career and displayed his versatility in so many different films so i think its impossible to tie him down to one part.
Loomis and Blofeld maybe his most famous roles but they are far from his best.
I think the best of Pleasence can be seen in films like A Tale Of Two Cities, The Flesh and the Fiends, Dr Crippen, The Caretaker, The Great Escape, The Halluluah Trail (apologies for spelling), Cul-De-Sac, Fantastic Voyage, Will Penny, Death Line, Henry VIII and His Six Wives, The Eagle Has Landed (As Himmler he is truly chilling in his few brief scenes) and so much more. -

The debate brings up a distinction similar to asking about 'best' performances versus 'favorite' performances.
I just saw Pleasence in Polanski's 'Cul-De-Sac' (on Hulu), and his role allows him a range unavailable to him in some of his more popular films. He was awesome!-
- but certainly many more people will manage to see h2000im as Blofeld or Loomis, having little to do with the caliber of those films.
In another example, think of the number of people who will best remember Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi, as opposed to his dozens of films in which his performance was far superior.
I would venture a guess that in another 30 years, it's Mr. Pleasence's appearance as Blofeld that will be better remembered, but only because it was such an iconic image of a film villain, during a flashy and significant point in film history.

- But in another hundred years, no one will be remember any of it.
When was the last time you debated about the film roles of Francis X. Bushman?

After Giving this a bit Of thought.. I would have to side with The Mrs!!
Having ONLY seen Pleasence as LOOMIS.. & have even 'tried' to imagine other actors playing the Loomis character. unsuccessfully i might ADD.. While i have seen numerous actors play Blofeld. You could mention the name to me on any day & i could think Of Pleasence Or Telly Savalas or Charles Gray.. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE Doctor LOOMiS!!
