    AndrewBarclayUK — 12 years ago(July 21, 2013 11:41 AM)

So, Mickey had his big comeback movie 5 years ago and i was wondering what people thought of his movies after that.

      His career is over.
      The Wrestler was a one-off.

Well Iron Man 2 tops my list of favorite movies right now. I can't get enough of him in it.

I'm just waiting for Sin City 2. He either needs a better agent, or get his ass back on track AGAIN.

I was talking about Mick with some friends and I think he just got difficult to work with again. He turned down 7 Psychopaths and ripped the director. Seeing him do one or two direct to DVD s is bad enough but now it's ridiculous.

Turning down '7 Psychopaths' is a dumb move.
Why is he doing this again?
In 2005 he was being humble saying how he'd be different if he had
his second chance now he's had it and he's blowing it.

Some actors get thy power back they think they can just go back to the way it was.

                          The Informers
Really interesting film, well acted. It's character's are mostly deeply flawed
and at times this movie become truly haunting, the way Brad Renfro delivers the
line "something bads gonna happen" raises the hair on my neck each time i hear/see it. Mickey doesn't make much impact here, not enough screen time.
                          Killshot
John Maddin is your man if you want a nice looking drama piece.
He's not so good at action as we find out here. I remember it being announced
and i was genuinely excited if not a little worried by the director but i always give a film a chance. Without posting spoilers the movie isn't
                          that
bad but it's main flaws are it's ending, and the choice of certain cast members.
Thomas Jane and Diane Lane might have seemed like a good idea but they have nothing to offer this movie. They are merely plot devices for the much more interesting shenanigans of Rourkes 'Bird' and Gordon-Levitt's 'Nix' character.
They have substance, they have background, but the movie cannot survive full scrutiny with just those two pushing it along. Wasted opportunity.
                          13
It's hard to discuss this movies wafer thin plot without giving away spoilers
but i shall not ruin it for anyone.
Suffice to say im astonished Rourke signed to do this movie, and even more astonished Michael Shannon, an actor of some high merit, took the role he took.
You'll see exactly what i mean when you see it.
                          Iron Man 2
Big budget fare to fill Rourkes bank account up. Its not unwatchable, it's just not something i personally get any pleasure from watching.
                          The Expendables
This is 80s nostagia and for that reason i can't really condemn it, but what i don't get is Rourke's inclusion. He wasn't one of the leading action heros of the 1980s so why he's in this is not really clear to me.
Unless Sly just likes Mickey. And that's fine by me. If you like LOTS of explosions and fast paced action this does the job.
                          Passion Play
Ridiculous movie that has nothing going for it. Megan Fox looks lost and Rourke doesn't really fare any better. Only Bill Murry seems to have enough confidence in his role to really excel here.
Had i been a Hollywood agent, this would have been one of the many in Rourkes career that id have advised against him doing.
                          Black Gold
I got my copy of this on DVD for 4 UK pounds. I feel robbed.
I feel cheated and really don't appreciate what's happened here.
The cast is VERY strong. The script SHOULD have been simply inspiring.
After all aren't oil corporations always causing grief somewhere in the developing world? The many forms this movie could have taken are countless,
                          what does it do instead?
Plods along to such a slow extent that you're tempted to turn off before the end credits. I didn't, but nearly did. Another wasted opportunity but not one that anyone might blame Rourke for.
                          Immortals
Muscles. Action. Have we seen that before with Rourke? Oh yes that's right.
Only this is an expensively made nonsense.
At least the tongue in cheek 'Point Blank' could at least blame its budget.
                          The Courier
Sharpe direction, well shot, fast paced but ultimately these tricks can't disguise the fact there's no film underneath the gloss and gun shots.
I haven't seen Jave Heat or Black November. I see there's a Western out soon too but not a good 'Unforgiven' or 'Tombstone' type Western, it's another one of those cheap shoot em ups if early screen reviews are to be believed.
It's finally happened, i no longer look forward to a new Mickey Rourke movie.
                          And that pains me.

Sizemore is good in a bad movie.
Rourke about 10 mins spread over the whole thing.
How come its been deleted on DVD does anyone know?
I wonder if that adds any value to this copy i have.
I'll gladly post it out in any case because i'll never
                                watch it again its awful.

I have only seen 13, Iron Man 2, The Expendables. I like these films and he was good in it.
I want to see Killshot, and The Informers.
He bashed 13 before it's release and it did hurt the film, and burnt his relationship with the director who might have gave him future work. Also scares producers away from him, a star bashing a film he is in upon it's release can be very hurtful. If he said something like: it's surprise.
I was reading a review for the film Dead in Tombstone a direct to video movie, where the writer explains very well the madness Mickey Rourke:
Man, what happened to Rourke? After "The Wrestler," he had a second act career resurgence that appeared to be another great Hollywood comeback story. He had a string of high-profile blockbuster films "Expendables," "Iron Man 2" among them and a whole list of films on IMDb that were slated in pre-production, many with large casts and studios.
He swore in all his cover story interviews around the release of The Wrestler that he'd "learned his lesson" the hard way by bad-mouthing Hollywood in the '80s and '90s, and that he wouldn't allow his career to become ruined again, as he had resorted to straight-to-video flicks in the late '90s and early '00s when his career was in truly dire straits. (He claims a narrative that he was out of work entir5b4ely for a decade, but the truth is, he was just appearing in really crap films.)
But he didn't heed his own words of wisdom. Within a couple years, these things had happened: he publicly dissed The Expendables 2, claiming he wouldn't return unless they paid him more. He was never cast in the film, and the plot was re-written to involve a younger character in his place. After the worldwide success of EX2, which could have been another franchise for Rourke, a producer on the film was asked whether he'd be back for round three. "Maybe if he doesn't act so crazy," was the reply from the producer. As of September 29th, the third film is in production, and Rourke's name is absent from the cast.
He also publicly bad-mouthed writer/director Martin McDonaugh (In Bruges), claiming he wasn't being paid enough by the "creep" to star in the film Seven Psychopaths; he dropped out, and was replaced by Woody Harrelson. The film wasn't a big hit financially, but critics loved it, and it had a huge ensemble cast. Instead of starring in that film, he starred in a straight-to-video movie with Kellen Lutzif you don't know who that guy is, it's because he was one of the shirtless vampires in Twilight.
Then he bad-mouthed Marvel Studios, claiming they butchered Iron Man 2. Not a huge deal since his character had no chance of coming back anyway, but it's more burnt bridges. He also annoyed the crap out of Rober2000t Downey Jr on the set of the film (RDJ went out on a limb for him and fought to have him cast in the film after Rourke's pay demands were deemed too high by Marvel, btw); apparently his Method Acting routine was hugely obnoxious to cast and crew, as he demanded odd flourishes such as blaring Gnarls Barkley's song "Crazy" at full volume before filming every one of his scenes.
My point of this long-winded rant is that Mickey Rourke has essentially ruined what could have been a golden opportunity comeback to fulfill his early potential as one of the great actors of all time, and now he has resorted to starring in utter dreck like this film, which is an absolutely abysmal production and something that any actor should be embarrassed to list on their resume.

I've heard some bull in my time, but this has gotta be the nugget of all nuggets.
What the **** are you talking about? What are your sources?
You sound like a b*h Mickey had a one nighter with, then left biting the pillow.

You people have no idea on how the film 'industry' works, or how shallow it is. When you do a lil 'homework', you may have the brain cell to post your 'facts'. Not your chicken s

rsb342013 first I'd like to tell f%&* you, and your parent failed at raising you.
If you read my post properly you would have seen that say that I copied and pasted a review by someone else. Also if you've been in these boards a while you'd have seen plenty of post with links to articles that confirm this review of "Dead in Tombstone".
Here is a link to Rourke bashing Martin McDonagh, and Iron Man 2. Also being quite rude in regards to The Expandables.
                                          http://www.craveonline.com/film/interviews/177591-mickey-rourke-talks-immortals
Rourke also bashed Moneyball for no particular reason. I am sure1908 this director will hire him in the near future.
                                          http://www.tmz.com/2012/03/06/mickey-rourke-moneyball-torture/
Now the only thing I cannot double check is the producer saying about Rourke appearing in EX 2: "Maybe if he doesn't act so crazy".
Over all we are not studio executives or Mickey Rourke so we don't know what goes on behind close door, however we can speculate and the review I posted seemed to be a very probable scenario.
Now I will finish this post by saying that rsb342013 you are what I call a fanboy b!@#h everything that Rourke does you will approve and follow, you also need p%$#s enlargement, and your hobby is to eat cat poo.
