I wacthed for the first time Swingers in which I think he was great also. I really hope he can come back and deliver some good performance in better movies than the rom coms he did in the last years

If you liked him in True Detective you should watch him in Clay Pigeons & Psycho he is great and more dramatic roles like he played in True Dectective.
