The play itself is getting fairly mixed reviews (mostly positive though) which isn't all that surprising considering a 3 hour long update of an incomplete Chekov play is probably something of an acquired taste. Cate's performance though has received universal raves so far, I think that Tony nom (and hopeful win) is just around the corner.

Hi there, honestly, I loved Cate but I didn't like the play. Cate is always captivating. Richard Roxburgh was also a standout. It was painful to watch great performers with such mediocre material to work with. The play was a disjointed mess, I'm shocked that it made its way to Broadway. I was sitting next to a fellow from Melbourne who absolutely enjoyed the play. There were many in the theatre who were just as disappointed as I was (and not all American). I believe The Present is an acquired taste. The silver lining is that I finally got to see Cate live on stage, another check off my bucket list.

, you're certainly not alone in your opinion of the play which seems to be pretty divisive in all honesty. Acquired taste indeed, lol. Cate's performance has won wall to wall raves though which is good, fingers still crossed for that Tony nom.
