Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mariah Carey

    Donna Acacia — 4 years ago(October 27, 2021 03:36 AM)

I learned a whole lot about Mariah Carey tonight. I learned things about her personal life and upbringing that I never knew all these years I have been a fan of her music. I never knew her. I knew her music and that was all I was interested in anyway.
So when it got to the part about her upbringing and the trauma. And then learning her sister was strung out on drugs and a sex worker then much later on in Mariah's career, her sister was diagnosed HIV positive. Mariah's mom kidnapped the grandchild.
Mariah never tried to get her sister help. She never tried getting her brother help either.
She blamed her loss of contact with her family and her being estranged from her family on Tommy.
I don't think that was fair at all. Plenty of musicians and therapists would have helped Mariah get out of that situation with Tommy. I just think Mariah didn't love Tommy. I don't think she did.
And I'm sorry her sister was right, she was dying of AIDS and Mariah is out partying with major celebrities. That's ****ed up. Sorry but that is.
And while I understand that Mariah says that he sister physically abused her at all younge age, that still is no real excuse to abandon her family. But Mariah was helping all those disadvantage black kids though and donating to charities.
So…c'mon. I just had a difficult believing Mariah Carey's story of being held hostage and unable to communicate with her mum, sister and brother.
