So what? That really shouldn't detract from him being a great artist. That stuff or any of his private life is of no concern to us.

I agree, but for some silly Post-Modern, politically correct reason, everyone has to please everyone nowadays and personally-held beliefs (social, economic, political) have some bearing on the artist's performance.
