I never realized until recently just how few movies Cazale appeared in. Just five complete films, every one of them among the best of the 1970s. In my opinion Godfather I/II, The Deer Hunter, and The Conversation are in the top 10 of the decade, with Dog Day Afternoon not too far behind.
His work is remarkable. It's not that his filmography is merely unblemished. It's damn near perfect.
