There is one story about C.B. De Mille that is a personal favorite of mine. It shows how the best laid plans of mice and men can go astray. De Mille was shooting a scene with three cameras in order to get different angles. Apparently it was a very important scene that he didn't want to repeat. The scene played through smoothly and the action looked good. At the end of the scene, he called to the first camera man to see if he got the shot. "No, sir, there was too much dust in the air, I couldn't see." The second camera man replied, "Sorry, Mr. de Mille, I was having a problem with the lens." Frustrated but still hopeful that the scene would have been recorded, de Mille called out to the third camera man. The camera man called out "Ready when you are, C. B." Since de Mille was known to have a temper, one can imagine what he said. The censors would not have allowed it to be recorded on film.
