This couldn't have been BK but it's all so eerily similar to what occurred a year later on King Road (the knife, the masked intruder, the manner of the break-in), only in this instance the would-be killer was thwarted before he could kill anyone.
Who was it? Could this earlier crime have been a trial run for the King Rd murders?
Bryan Kohberger Investigated in Break-in After Arrest for Idaho College Murders
Bryan Kohberger was previously a person of interest in a 2021 home invasion, 10 miles away from where he murdered four University of Idaho students.

Bryan Kohberger was once suspected of other crimes.
After the 30-year-old was sentenced to life in prison for the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, authorities released police documents detailing his connection to an earlier break-in obtained by NBC News.
In 2021, a knife-wielding assailant wearing a ski mask broke into a home in Pullman, Washington, per the Pullman Police Department records. Although no one was injured in the incident, according to an affidavit in support of a search warrant, a witness told officials that she kicked the intruder in the stomach as they fled.
Pullman police began investigating the former criminology student as a potential perpetrator after he was arrested in November 2022 for the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, that December.
Although Kohberger—who was pursuing his doctorate at Washington State University—didn't reside in Pullman at the time of the intrusion, the Idaho students lived about 10 miles from the Washington home.
A sergeant, tasked with retracing his steps in the area, filed a supplemental report obtained by the outlet, noting that Kohberger had worn a ski mask while killing the four students with a knife.
Although the police records didn't identify the assailant's gender, the witness said their height was between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 5 inches. Meanwhile, the surviving roommate in the Idaho case Dylan Mortensen described Kohberger as 5 feet 10 inches.
After further investigation, Pullman officials confirmed that Kohberger was no longer a person of interest in the case.

Before I come up with a perhaps too crazy theory
(Kohberger was 2x framed by 2 girls)
, please clarification:
In the 2021 Pullman incident, was that one or more than one intruder?
The text confuses me with
singular
and
plural
.
Or did the Pullman witnesses talked about their own heights? -

P.S.
Soooo, pretty much the same article also on other sites. I'm glad not being the only one who was confused by the singular/plural. Some of the Yahoo-comments made me laugh, even though the murders aren't funny.

2021 in Pullman it was one intruder, intruder's height 5.3"-5.5", gender unknown (masked).
Kohberger's height 5.10"-6.00" (different height on different sites, but definitely much taller). I don't know if that was the only reason that Kohberger was excluded as the Pullman intruder. Some comments said he also was somewhere else, while others said it wasn't said anything about Kohberger's whereabouts on that night in Pullman and people shouldn't invent facts.
Yep, the similarities to the Idaho-4 murders are amazing.
At some points it reminded to the late Ted-Bundy-murders (stalking –> raping, killing). ☻
Ted Bundy is dead for a long time, but perhaps a copy killer?
Or copy killers (plural)?!
Wouldn't be the first time that there was more than one serial killer on the loose and some dim-witted petty criminal was convicted as the murderer just because he happened to be nearby and/or picked some items from the crime scene. I know of leastwise one person who is on death row in San Quentin, although he probably didn't commit the murders for which he was convicted, but not an innocent lamb either.
Coming back to my perhaps too crazy theory:
It still wasn't adequately explained (for me) why the two roommates took so long to call 911.
Eight (!) hours frozen fear?! Sorry, I don't buy that and the late emergency call was strange as well. -

Dylan's description of the killer might not have been entirely accurate. After all, it was dark, she was tired and (I'm assuming) somewhat intoxicated when she saw him, so it's possible that she added a few inches to his height.
BK was thousands of miles away and still living in Pennsylvania when the Pullman incident occurred. He didn't move to Washington until the following summer.

Did you see the new security footage that was released today? There's NO WAY Dylan and Bethany (and even some of the neighbors) didn't hear the screams and constant barking coming from the other rooms that night!

Yah, scared and in the night people tend to make things or intruders bigger than they actually were.
Either way, it wasn't Kohberger in 2021 Pullman.
And no, I didn't see the new footage yet.
Agreed to what you said there:
"Something's rotten in the state of Denmark."
…or in the state of Idaho. ☻
Sorry, no time and enough peace to concentrate on that now.
But I'll come back to it, promised! -

One intruder.
They were talking about the intruder's height.
Dylan described Kohberger as being 5'10 yet BK looks to be at least 6 feet tall.
