Although Garner had a temper, he did not have the Hollywood ego that Douglas and Curtis had. Garner would never have put up with their arrogance. He put some like Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Anthony Franciosa in their place [Franciosa literally].

I enjoyed Garner's autobiography 'The Garner Files.' Garner did not have the movie star ego and was a true professional, but he admits that he was quick tempered and insecure as well. He wasn't afraid of using his fists and did so on a few occasions. One of them was when he knocked out Anthony Franciosa. Franciosa was a hot tempered guy who was acting like a jerk to the stuntmen during the filming of A MAN COULD GET KILLED [1966]. Garner told him to knock it off, Franciosa didn't, so Garner knocked him out.
