Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Van Heflin

    Wasn't he?
I mean his roles, of course (most of them).
Whenever I see him, I get this warm feeling around my heart, thinking just how good would be to have a friend like the ones he portrayed.
I wonder, was he as nice a guy in private life?

From what I've read, Heflin was a very private, introspective guy. On an episode of the "This is Your Life" series in the 1950's (in which an unsuspecting celebrity is targeted to have his life story told for a TV audience) it was clear that Heflin was seriously irritated by the whole thing. I think he was so unwilling a subject that the show was not aired at the time, although it's available today.

I can well imagine why he would irritated by something like that
I'll try and find a copy of the programme.
          Thank you.

I know it has been awhile since you posted. Have you had any luck finding the This is Your Life episode?
I am watching 'The Feminine Touch', the beard really changes his look I didn't recognize him. I have a friend that looks like him..but of course about 60 or 70 yrs younger.

Probably depends on the roles you saw him in first. Mine was Airport when I was 6 years old in the theater, so not so much for me.
