sadly with the passage of time character actors like Van Heflin have been forgotten - in my opinion he was a solid performer - just watch 3:10 to Yuma which reminded me of his ability

I agree that Van Heflin has been somewhat forgotten, but never by real fans of classic Hollywood. Consider that even the true giants of the 30's and 40's are forgotten by young Gable, Cooper, Fonda, Stewart, Crawford, Bette Davis. How many people under 40 even know their names or faces?
