Gary Oldman? are you high? Please take a look at Gary's filmography before making comments like that. Gary in the past has done some phenomenal work. He is the best actor next to Daniel Day Lewis. In response to the OP, I would put Malcolm McDowell and Christopher Walken up there.

Gary Oldman has a heck of a lot more films going for him than that.
Leon the Professional
Fifth Element
True Romance
JFK
Air Force One
Dawn of the planet of the Apes
Sid and Nancy
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
He was spectacular in those roles.
He just happens to say yes to a lot of films The guy wants roles dammit! -

I was sitting and thinking today. After seeing so many films and many performances over the years who do I consider to be the finest living British actor and I came to the conclusion its Sir Ben Kingsley. Yes I agree hes appeared in his fair share of poor movies but even in those he has been consistently impressive and worth watching. The guy is amazing and very underrated in my opinion, I keep on hearing people sing the praises of Sir Anthony Hopkins but Kingsley is by far the greater actor, a rare talent.

Rod Steiger did a few turkeys.
I think Kingsley regards himself as a jobbing actor. The terrible movies play well and allows him to do smaller films such as Sexy beast and House of sand and fog for which he got Oscar nominations.
Its that man again!! -

Exactly, an old English tradition dates back a few centuries to Larwrence Olivier, you just keep working &a5b4mp; jobbing, there are many many penniless actors that would die to be in anything at all.
He's a bit full of himself but just getting older now, so relax. He's done a great body of work (a few cringeworthy always usually convincing & professional. Loved Sexy beast and House of Sand and Fog, Ghandi was & will always be beautiful & immemorial -

Sound of thunder. lookit up. Goes to show just how awesome Kingsley is. Don't ever say oh Shindlers List and oh Ghandi get with the times, twenty or thirty years later, what's he done?
Oh I'm sorry, you win one oscar and that makes like one of the best actors ever to exist even if you do a whole bunch of crap movies for the rest of your life? -

Daniel Day-Lewis wipes the floor of him in my opinion
HOWEVER
his performance in sexy beast is in my top 20 of all time so i rate him pretty damn highly.
What sin are you referring to Mr. Bandy? My sin of drilling? -

Day Lewis is an overacting hack. Kingsley's subtle but effective work in Schindler's List and Gandhi is better than anything Day Lewis has ever done. Just because he only works every 3 to 5 years and then goes mad on screen does not mean he's the best actor of all time.

In a way I have to agree with you, Day-Lewis is still a great actor though, but EVEN b68someone as professional as Daniel Day-Lewis can't hold a candle to Ben Kingsley's subtlety, not to mention when Kingsley gets ruthless he's pretty much as ruthless as Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. But in terms of acting range, they're both equally phenomenal, as is Anthony Hopkins, it's just DDL picks more of the better projects these days. But Gandhi and Schindler's List will still always be among 2 of my favorite films of all time.

Klaus Kinski was a truly amazing actor that starred in many great films but the majority of his career was spent acting in some unfathomably awful movies. Some of Kinski's films are so bad they are not even listed on IMDB!
