I just bought Gandhi on DVD and was watching the extras. On the DVD is a 20 min clips showing Ben Kinsley talking about his part in Gandhi.
I couldn't believe my ears! He was going on, and on of how he 'could PERFECTLY mimic' any person he wanted and how he amuses people by doing so. Talking about how he got the part by 'doing such a wonderful Hamlet. And how he fooled the sound guy into thinking he was listening to Gandhi, when he was in fact listening to Kinsgley! It's a funny story, but Ben's (BEN'S!)smirky face at the end really annoyed me!
He was, I'm not joking, exactly like David Brent from 'The Office'! I swear! Exactly alike! When he was talking of how he didnt move while playing the dead Gandhi (despite having rose petals being thrown at him) he was talking in the same fashion as Ricky Gervais' character.
(paraphrase): "They were trying to ruin the take by making me smile. But I didn't move! They soon stopped doing
that!

I found the little news blurb about Kingsley's wife leaving him because he's such a snob amusing. Reports claim he insisted that her friends call him Sir Ben.

Yeah I hear what you guys are saying, his performace as Gandhi was very memorable (although i don't like a lot of his recent work like Bloodrayne, Thunderbirds, The last legion) but he totally up himself and talks as if no one else could have achieved a performance like what he did with Gandhi. Like many actors he's very arrogant and I found him to be in love with himself when I listened to him go on about his perfomance as Gandhi in the extras of the DVD. The guy's old and single and his number one fan is himself. I always assumed he would be a humble guy but he's not and I guess thats one of this shortcomings. -

I read that he INSISTED to appear in the credits and on posters as sir Ben Kingsley from now on.
Sure you can be proud on a title, but too much is just too much.
(kinda reminds me of Jack Sparrow ya know, "it's captain Jack Sparrow" but in a less irritating and pathethic way)
read my x-men 4 script:

Yeh he's been well up his own luvvie arse lately by insisting Sir Ben being put on the credits of the hack hollywood movies he appears in.
But to be fair I think he's lightened up judging by his Sopranos cameo.
For those who haven't seen it, Christopher blags a meeting with him, to tout his awful ganster script, after being so impressed by his Don Logan performance.
He ticks off Christopher for calling him Kingsley instead of Sir Ben. However a mashed Christopher can't quite get his head around this and spends the rest of the show calling him Sir Kingsley. -

I don't fully condone snobbery, but the fact is he IS a great actor. I tend to be pretty modest at times, but I'm just a blue-collar guy from New Jersey. What do I have to brag about? If I had as much fame and success as Ben Kingsley, I'm not gonna lieI'd be full of myself too. Hey, it's not like he's one of these no-talent movie actors who's doing direct-to-video movies now and think they're the greatest. Besides, I think almost every movie star is a snob. It's just when they go on shows like "Jay Leno" and "David Letterman," they act all humble, just so the public will like them (and so their publicists won't beat them over their heads). At least Kingsley is open about being a snob. Hollywood changes people. There is no exception to the rule.

i couldn't agree more, i think he's a total ass! I remember reading Chloe Sevigny saying in quite a few interviews for "Melinda and Melinda" that when she worked with Kingsley in "Mrs Harris" he actually sent round memos to cast and crew basically demanding he be addressed to as Sir Ben. she was kinda dismissive, just saying "I've seen people behave far worse" but you can sorta tell she was annoyed by it anyway. His career has totally gone down the toilet, judging from gems such as "BloodRayne" (which he apparently gave up "Munich" to do?!?), "Thunderbirds", "A Sound of Thunder" and "Lucky Number Slevin", and he's still forcing people to call him "Sir"? Geez, talk about someone with no perspective whatsoever.

I agree with the fact that Hollywood changes everyone. But there is a difference between being just completely self absorbed or at least having enough self restraint to at least ACT humble when they're doing public relations. At least many of the other celebrities have enough self control and humility not to demand that everyone calls them "Sir".
