Shelley's weight gain seems to have occurred very specifically between
late 2009:

and early 2011:

,
as these stills from her first two appearances on
Modern Family
show. That is a marked change in less than 18 months, after a lifetime of being extremely slender. I wonder if the weight gain is medication-related. -

Shelley's weight gain came at at a time when women are expected to gain weight considering she was in her 60s plus her weight was not as extreme whereas alley's weight gain was more noticeable or in other words alley got much fatter and she acquired16d0 it a younger age. Long is not even that fat really, some mild weight gain yes and naturally she has aged but kristy alley obese-no. That and alley is still much more in the public eye these days whereas long keeps a very low profile and is rarely, if ever, in the public eye.

I think we should just stop body-shaming celebrities in general. I feel really sorry for Kirstie Alley. She first started gaining weight when she had a late-term miscarriage, and then the depression from that led her into drug abuse. THEN she started yo-yo dieting, which screws your metabolism so you have trouble losing weight, especially as you get older.
Cut these women a break already. Losing weight is hard, and the more factors you pile on (other than diet and exercise), the harder it gets.
